The Characidae are a family of freshwater fish subtropical and tropical, the order Characiformes. includes the genera Hemigrammus very similar, Hyphessobrycon. And the Neon tetra Astyanax mexicanus. Piranhas belong to this family. There are fish in this family important as food, also includes popular aquarium fish. They are located mainly in the Orinoco, Amazon and Rio Inirida.
